The best artichoke and peas houmous

This post is also available in: Dutch

There are a lot of variations on the original houmous (or also written as hummus, humus, hoummous or hoemus). This artichoke and peas houmous, or actually a kind of spread, is much lighter than the original, and is made on the basis of artichoke hearts and peas. The original is houmous made with chickpeas, tahini, garlic, lemon, some herbs, and olive oil. This variation is really worth trying. Even if you eat quite a bit, you do not get a full feelings as with the original houmous.

This artichoke and peas houmous is delicious with a drink, but I also use it as a spread on a sandwich for breakfast or lunch. The advantage is that it is very healthy and very simple to make. You do need a food processor.
What do you need for a big bowl of this delicious spread?

300 grams of frozen peas
1 can of artichoke hearts, drained
6 teaspoons of cumin
5 tablespoons of lemon juice
A large amount of olive oil (about 10 tablespoons)
1 bunch of mint
Salt and pepper

All you have to do is putt all ingredients in the food processor and purée them for a long time. The houmous must be very smooth, fine and creamy, so you can better purée it a bit too long than too short. If the mash is too thick, you can thinn it with some water or olive oil. You can of course add salt and pepper to taste. I love to taste the taste of cumin well, so I add a fair amount of it.
Transfer the mixture into a nice dish and smooth with the back of a spoon. Pour a little olive oil over it. Serve it, decorated with a few mint leaves and with flatbread or toasts. A baguette can of course also be very tasty.
